East Durham College students enjoyed an excellent trip to the Salon International hairdressing exhibition at Excel in London.

The day started bright & early at Durham Train Station.

This is the largest hairdressing exhibition in europe and students witnessed numerous demonstrations by all of the big names in the hairdressing industry.

11.00pm

Please arrange own transport to and from the train station.

You will need:

• a packed lunch

Army Activity Day At Houghall.

Hair & Beauty students (and staff) enjoyed a thrilling team building field trip on The Army Activity Day at Houghall.

Activities included paintballing, assault courses, mountain biking, bungee running, army laser and various other team building exercises. The inclement weather didn't spoil the fun....it merely ensured that everyone got as wet and dirty as possible.

New Build Up-Date!!

Some of the H & B team had a tour of the new building recently. They were absolutely amazed at how magnificent it was....particularly the Hair & Beauty Department. One commented, "It has really wetted our appetites, I can't wait to get in!"

The Staff Party!!

Pamper Day At Glendale House.

Audrey Green, Glenda Ferguson Colletta Rutherford and Valerie Harle , took Level 2 Beauty Therapy Students to do a Pamper Day for staff and patients of the Alzeimers Day Centre at Blackhall. The girls did mini manicures and mini facials. It was a very successful day and we got really good feedback.

Simon Shaw - Masterclass!

One of Britain's leading hairdressers, Simon Shaw presented one of his famous Masterclasses to local salon owners, students & staff on Wed 25th June in the Howletch Salon.

In his unique style, Simon demonstrated new, avant guard clippering techniques on models, before facilitating a workshop in which delegates practiced the techniques.

Delegates agreed that this was the best seminar they've ever attended!!

Catwalk Rehersals!

Rehersals for the catwalk presentation have been taking place this week.

Toni & Guy Cutting Masterclass.

Students, Local Hairdressers and Salon Owners enjoyed a full day of emerging cutting styles and techniques at the first Toni & Guy Masterclass session on Wednesday 14th May 2008.

Jen and Tori from The Sunderland Branch of Toni & Guy Demonstrated the techniques during the morning session and delegates practiced these avant guarde techniques in the afternoon.

Both The College, and Toni & Guy recieved very positive feedback.
